Why God Is Raising Up A Prophetic Army

11/2/2015 TROY ANDERSON

While gathered at a great banquet with his lords, wives and concubines, King Belshazzar saw a mysterious hand write an encrypted message on the wall of the royal palace: "Mene, Mene, Tekel, Upharsin." Frightened by the apparition, the king of Babylon summoned Daniel—a prophet regarded for his ability to interpret dreams, explain enigmas and solve problems (Dan. 5:12). The prophet deciphered the inscription, explaining God had weighed Belshazzar in the balance and found him wanting, and that his kingdom would be divided by the Medes and Persians.

The cover story in this month's issue of Charisma—"A Prophetic Army Rising Up"—features interviews with a number of respected prophetic ministers who believe the world is on the verge of a powerful new move of God.

This may seem counterintuitive given the troubled state of the world. Yet many are prophesying awakening. And while some believe a "great shaking" is coming, they also believe God is patient and is giving the world time to return to Him. "I believe we're on the cusp of another phase of the release of the Holy Spirit that began with the Pentecostal/charismatic movements," says John Eckhardt, overseer of Crusader Ministries. "Some things don't happen unless prophets are involved. There has been a great amount of prayer worldwide for revival and awakening, and I believe God is answering those prayers by raising the level of the prophetic."

Today, prophetic believers are rising up as part of a great intercessory army to prepare the way of the Lord. God is calling a global community of prophetic people to arise and decree revival. Some who have felt discouraged are receiving a touch from heaven. Others are recognizing dormant spiritual gifts such as the simple gift of prophecy used for edification, exhortation and comfort (1 Cor. 14:3).

As this prophetic movement unfolds, it's important for mature prophets who have gone through the "making process" to train those with budding prophetic gifts. "The first thing is they need to find a mentor, somebody who is more seasoned," says Hubie Synn, a speaker and author of The Tales of a Wandering Prophet. This training is also available at a variety of prophetic schools, including the Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry, where 2,100 students learn about healing, deliverance, the prophetic and supernatural gifts. "We are teaching people to leave the walls of the church and take the kingdom wherever they go," says Kris Vallotton, senior associate leader at Bethel Church and co-founder of the school.

These and similar ministries teach people about prophetic gifts, how to receive prophecies and how to know if they are true or false.

"We still have prophets today who are issuing corrections, warnings, teachings and instructions just as they did in the Bible," says DeGraw Ministries Founder Kathy DeGraw.

These prophets are encouraging church and ministry leaders to seek to understand those in their congregations and ministries with interest in this spiritual gift. Whenever God releases a new movement, teachers are needed to help the body of Christ understand what is happening.

"If you still believe in miracles and healings, then how can you remove prophets? God has always had prophets," Eckhardt says. "If we need them at any time, we definitely need them today with all the challenges the church is confronted with."

Just as Daniel was summoned to the royal palace in Babylon to interpret dreams and solve problems, Vallotton says more than 100 graduates of the Bethel school have gone to Washington, D.C., to work in government and "see the kingdom move into places of influence."

The graduates of the school are also working in several cities. Like the sons of Issachar who understood the times (1 Chr. 12:32), they're helping officials create "prophetic strategic plans" to solve problems before they occur.

This is why God is raising up a new wave of prophets—not just to sound a trumpet of warning in a world largely oblivious to the writing on the wall—but also to offer hope and godly solutions to the Gordian knots facing humanity.

FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS: Why Revelation Is The Bible's Greatest Book Of Hope

By Troy Anderson

The book of Revelation is the Bible's greatest book of hope. It's a sneak preview. In the end, God wins. That's the great hope of our faith. And it's certainly encouraging to know that God is working through all the chaos in today's world to ultimately bring about what Revelation 21:1-2 describes as the new heaven, new earth and new Jerusalem.

In a recent sermon, Central Christian Church Pastor Jud Wilhite said God is "working a bigger plan that we don't understand. He is large and in charge. He's working and He's moving, and all of history is marching toward the culmination of what God ultimately has prepared."

Why Revelation is The Bible's Greatest Book Of Hope?

As you'll discover in this issue of Charisma, dozens of faith leaders and prophecy experts believe end-time signs are converging. In an interview, evangelist Billy Graham said signs of the end of the age are "converging now for the first time since Jesus made those predictions."

Amid the last of the four blood moons and the biblical Shemitah, Rabbi Jonathan Cahn, author of The Harbinger and The Mystery of the Shemitah, and others believe an event of prophetic significance could occur between now and September 2016—the end of the "Super Shemitah," which is the Year of Jubilee that comes at the end of seven cycles of the seven-year Shemitah.

While both the blood moons and the Shemitah prophecies have generated controversy, dozens of prophecy experts told Charisma they believe the world is in the run-up to the end-time events predicted in the Bible. Whether an event of prophetic significance—economic calamity, war in the Middle East or the fulfillment of prophecies related to Israel—occurs soon is something only God knows. Mark 13:32 says God alone knows the "day or hour" when these things will occur. As we await Christ's return, our primary mission is to spread the gospel. What greater motivation could we have to share our faith than what many believe are the gathering signs of Jesus' return?

People are inherently fascinated with what the Bible has to say about the future. Often, the first book many unbelievers read is one about Bible prophecy. Many are inspired to not only turn to God, but also to tell others what they've learned. Yet, even as the world becomes increasingly interested in Bible prophecy as demonstrated by widespread media coverage of the blood moons phenomenon, the church is oddly quiet. In a sermon he gave in the late 1980s, Graham said: "The most neglected teaching in the church today is the Second Coming of Jesus Christ."

This is one of the great paradoxes of our age. At a time when Graham, Cahn, Dr. Tim LaHaye, Joel Rosenberg and dozens of other faith leaders say end-time signs are converging, the pulpits are largely silent. Polls reveal 4 in 10 Americans—and 77 percent of evangelical Christians—believe the "world is now living in the biblical end times," yet experts estimate less than 10 percent of ministers are teaching their congregations about Bible prophecy.

This is troubling given that more than a quarter of the Bible is prophetic in nature and the apostle Paul admonished ministers in Acts 20:27 to preach the "whole counsel of God" to their congregations. God embedded thousands of prophecies in the Bible to reveal that Scripture is accurate and to give us hope.

In a recent "Daily Hope" newsletter, Pastor Rick Warren wrote: "One of the reasons I can know that the Bible is true and trustworthy is that it has thousands and thousands of prophecies that have come true and will come true in history."

In The End, Bible prophecy scholar Dr. Mark Hitchcock wrote there are more than 1,800 references to the Second Coming in the Bible and for every prophecy about Christ's first coming there are eight regarding His Second Coming. People are exhorted more than 50 times to be ready for Christ's return. In light of present world conditions, we need to not only prepare for Jesus' return, but to tell others about it too. Their eternal destinies are at stake.

Based on the pattern of economic shocks and Israel-related events that have occurred at the end of past Shemitah cycles, Cahn believes something significant could happen again, but he cautions "you cannot put God in a box."

"Brothers and sisters, we are witnessing things that are unprecedented not just in American history, but human history," Cahn says. "These are the days of apostasy. All these things are coming together."

We could very well be on the verge of a mighty last days' revival and the greatest "harvest" of souls the world has ever seen.

Let's not miss the final, triumphant act in the great biblical drama and our chance to help fulfill the Great Commission by taking the Good News to the ends of the earth.

Why Electing Godly Leaders is Critical in 2016
"FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS" column from Charisma magazine
by TROY ANDERSON

What would America be like today if just 4 percent of evangelical Christians had voted differently in 2012? Would it still be facing exploding debts, moral bankruptcy and growing international dangers?

Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee addressed this question at The Awakening 2015 conference in Orlando, Florida, earlier this year. "Now here's the sad part," the former Arkansas governor said. "There are 80 million self-identified evangelicals in America today. You know how many are registered to vote? Half of them. But of the half that are registered do you know how many voted in the last presidential election? Half of them. And how many of them voted in the off-year election of 2014? Half of that number. If 4 percent more had voted differently in the 2012 presidential election ... we would be talking today about (a different administration)."

In America, we have the freedom to select our leaders through the voting process. That's why what we see happening to our great country is such a needless tragedy. If we had simply voted, the unraveling of America now unfolding around us may have been averted. This month we chose a contemplative boy for the cover of Charisma with the headline, "This Election Will Impact Generations." His T-shirt reads: "Think About Me When You Vote." As Rev. Franklin Graham noted, we're likely to "lose everything if we don't get involved in this next election, and we only have this next election" to not only vote in far greater numbers, but become politically engaged. The future of our children and grandchildren depends on Christians voting, becoming politically active and running for office.

For decades, the church has largely shooed politics—preferring to avoid anything controversial. It's been good for filling the pews and church coffers, but the impact on America has been devastating. During this time, as Graham pointed out, "Satan and his demons" have worked their way "into every level of our government." As a reporter at the Los Angeles Daily News and a contributor to Reuters and Newsmax for more than two decades, I had a front-row seat to watch this play out. I saw how our government was largely taken over by progressives, secularists and globalist elites who followed what some now describe as "the plan" to "unmake America." If powerful forces are truly working to radically transform America into something unrecognizable, it's time to bolt wide awake, vote and make sure our voices are heard in the corridors of power.

In an interview for our upcoming end-times issue in September, Dr. Tim LaHaye, co-author of the Left Behind series that sold 80 million copies, encouraged believers to get "involved more in what I think will be the most important election in American history, or at least since Abraham Lincoln." LaHaye says the "current administration seems bent on destroying this nation and our relationship with Israel"—adding its desire to "change our great policy of blessing Israel" would be "fatal to our nation's future! It is my ardent prayer that evangelical pastors will lead their congregations to pray earnestly for the 2016 election and that their congregations will become informed on where their leaders stand on Israel, become registered to vote, and not only vote themselves but help all their members and friends to vote also," LaHaye says.

At this critical hour, are we going to hand the nation our forefathers fought and died for over to the forces of darkness simply because we're too busy to be bothered with voting and politics? Until recently when the church largely retreated from the public square, pastors often spoke about political issues, ran for office and served as statesmen. It's time to do so again. Now is not the time to shrink from our destiny, but to boldly follow the Lord's calling on our lives come what may.

In a guest column, American Renewal Project founder David Lane is encouraging 1,000 pastors to run for office. He believes it could ignite a spiritual movement that America has not seen since the Great Awakening, an event that preceded America's founding in 1776. It could happen again.

As history reveals, and as George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Franklin D. Roosevelt could tell us if they were alive today, there is always hope—even in America's darkest hours. But for this to happen we must act and do the good works that Jesus has called us to "for such a time as this."

What is the Supernatural Secret to Worldwide Revival?

Moments after touching down at a North Carolina airport, Sid Roth called with the exciting news about a lecture on the supernatural he gave in Jerusalem. "This was without a doubt the most exciting thing I've ever done in my life," said the host of It's Supernatural! "We had 650 Jewish people attend the event, all non-believers, and I would say 98 percent stood up and made a profession of faith. There were so many healings I couldn't even count them all. This has never happened before in Israel outside of 2,000 years ago."

Roth, who is featured in our cover story this month, "The Supernatural—As Seen on TV," has spent nearly four decades investigating the miraculous move of the Spirit. Today, Roth believes the world is on the verge of a massive supernatural revival in which miracles become as "commonplace as they were in the early church." The key to this phenomenon are the Jews who "require a sign." Roth believes the end of what the Bible calls the "times of the Gentiles" is underway and a new era is beginning in which God is lifting the veil of spiritual blindness off the Jewish people who are becoming increasingly open to the idea of Yeshua, or Jesus, as the Messiah.

Remarkably, a little-noticed 2014 Pew Research Center report found 34 percent of American Jews say believing Yeshua is the Messiah is compatible with being Jewish. For Roth, this shift has momentous ramifications. In his newsletter, Roth wrote there were 1 million Jewish believers in Jesus by the end of the first century. "These original Jewish believers carried the torch that ignited the great Gentile revival. What will this new generation of Jewish believers do? Paul says it will release resurrection of the dead, miracle power (Rom. 11:15). And Amos 9 says when the Tabernacle (family) of David (the Jewish people) are restored (to God), it will trigger the greatest Gentile revival in history!"

As unlikely as it may seem, Roth believes the world is entering a time when many Jewish people will accept Yeshua as their Messiah and become the "sparkplug for a worldwide revival" accompanied by widespread signs, wonders and miracles. As you'll read in Ken Walker's meticuously-researched article—"Modern-Day Resurrections: Are They Real?"—there are literally hundreds of reports of dead people coming back to life. Judge for yourself, but Walker's story will make you wonder what in the world is really going on. The academic community is even taking notice. Craig Keener, a professor at Asbury Theological Seminary, has researched this phenomenon and says, "There is considerable evidence that miracles are occurring—and lots and lots of them." A survey of 1,000 American doctors found 55 percent believe "they have seen treatment results in their patients that they would consider miraculous." "Now, as for what academics think: The dominant antisupernaturalism of some previous generations has been breaking down," Keener says. "For the most part, even in the West, Christian scholars from a range of traditions today are increasingly open to the reality of miracles."

Given this sea change in belief in the miraculous among academics—and among the broader public where belief in the supernatural has gone mainstream—the church should embrace the exciting things God is doing and encourage those with these gifts to use them to spread the good news to the world. Surveys show the supernatural work of the Spirit has played a key role in the great revivals that have taken place in Africa, Asia and Latin America. "One report from China ... suggested that this was the cause of half of all conversions in the previous two decades," Keener says.

God is on the move—raising people from the dead, performing healing miracles worldwide—and amid this supernatural wave millions are becoming believers. If this is truly the end of the age, as famed evangelist Billy Graham told me in a recent interview and as Roth saw in a dream in which Jesus told him three times that He's "coming back soon," we should be doing all we can to share the gospel with both Jews and Gentiles.

"Romans 11 does talk about a turning of the Jewish people to faith in Jesus at the time of the end," Keener says. "The spread of the gospel in Acts is intimately connected with signs and wonders. So I do think that we can expect signs and wonders to play a part of the spreading of the gospel in the end time."
